Determining Gas Gathering Pipeline Regulatory Categories
A 2021 revision to 49 CFR § 192.8 requires pipeline operators to document the determination process, beginning and end points, and types for all gas gathering lines. For existing lines, these records must be in place by November 16, 2022. Most gathering line operators will be affected by this new requirement. Our flowchart provides a clear visual map for categorizing onshore gas gathering pipelines and a comprehensive look at the safety requirements for each category.
